Target Audience Interviews
Person #1 (Male 18yrs old)
1. What is your most favourite song and why do you believe that it is better than other songs?
My favourite song without a shadow of a doubt will have to be heal the world by Michael Jackson. He just captivated the whole world by this song as he when he sang this song. I can name a million other songs that I love about Michael but this one is just amazing. He sang it live
once and it was so deep. A child sang first and then he came on and everybody went crazy (SIGH). I think that this is better than other songs because Michael tries to reach out to the world instead of just singing the song and lastly his voice is just, I don’t know how to describe it. Just amazing. My favourite song without a shadow of a doubt will have to be heal the world by Michael Jackson.
2. What would you say has been the most influential music genre of modern times?
The most influential music genre today would be without a shadow of a doubt R&B. The majority of teenagers listen to R&B. In fact it has captivated the majority of the world due to artists such as Beyoncé, Rihanna, Jay-Z and many more. A lot of people try to learn the songs because it is catchy and easy to follow. But in my opinion I think that music is not what it used to be.
3. What do you think makes a music video good?
This is a tough question since there are many things that could make a music video look good. It depends really because if it is a famous artist like Jay-Z, the image that he gives out to the audience alone will allow people the like the video. However if it is a new artist that is just rising, the music video itself will have to be great for people to recognize them. So it really depends. Am not too sure on that one myself but if I had to say, I think it’s the image of artists and the type of genre they are working with.
4. How important is music for you?
Music is very important. I really don’t know what I would do without music. I listen to music almost every day, whether it is going to college or going shopping or whatever, I will have to have music in my ears otherwise I would just be grumpy LMFAO. If I don’t listen to my Michael Jackson then am going to be a very angry person.
5. What do you hate in songs and music videos?
Music is just not original anymore and that is one thing I really hate. Before it used to be original and artists would come up with their own beats for their music and use their own lyrics. Now artists are just copying lyrics from other songs and try and differentiate it like nobody would notice. For instance Jason Derulo, “Daylight come and we don’t want to go home” I mean come on that song should have been left as it is.
Person #2 (Male 45yrs old)
1. What is your most favourite song and why do you believe that it is better than other songs?
The best song I have ever heard and the song that I always play at home is stand by me by Ben E King. What a song. When I first heard the song, I immediately fell in love with it and since then that song has never grown too old for me. I believe that it is the best song of all time because it is a song that you can actually dance to. Nowadays there is just music that you just cannot dance to. This generation needs to know what real music is about.
2. What would you say has been the most influential music genre of modern times?
I would have to say its Rap. These days you see little kids walking on the road with their phones out listening to music without any headphones, which I think is ridiculous and just rapping to instrumentals. Rap has definitely taken over the youths of today.
3. What do you think makes a music video good?
A good music video is when the audience feels emotions or it influences a person in some ways even if the influence is bad. Once that happens then a lot of people would be talking about that specific music video and this would make the artists more established.
4. How important is music for you?
Music is very important for me as it should be important for everyone else. I know I might sound like a little boy but I cannot leave my house without my IPod. When I was younger I used to watch top of the pops and see my some of my favourite artists sing. I miss those days.
5. What do you hate in songs and music videos?
What I hate about music now is that really and truly anybody could try and make music and you would see it on music channels like for instance Channel U is what I think it is. I walk through the living-room and I see my son glued to the TV watching youths no bigger than him rapping and it’s like that’s not music. The lyrics they even come up with are appalling.
Person #3 (Female 20yrs old)
1. What is your most favourite song and why do you believe that it is better than other songs?
My favourite song will have to be best thing I never had by Beyoncé. She is an artist that a lot of people adore and young girls would want to grow up being like her. Beyoncé sing that song with passion and it just moves me. It’s by far for me better than any other song because even though men might think she’s a bit sexiest she defends woman and it just cheers women up to think that we can be dominant.
2. What would you say has been the most influential music genre of modern times?
Rap without any hesitation. You can just look around and you can see how the genre has influenced people. The way people talk and dress. A lot of people just love that genre but I really don’t know why. I think it’s the image of rappers nowadays that allow the target audience to think wow I want to be like them.
3. What do you think makes a music video good?
I think for a music video to be good you would have to have attractive artists. For example, there are a lot of young boys and also men that love Beyoncé not only because she can sing and dance but because she is a very beautiful lady. Attractive men are a must. Artists like Drake are so attractive and this helps him to attract more female audiences.
4. How important is music for you?
Music is important to me; I listen to it every day I cannot leave my house without taking my IPod or my phone. That is a must. If I forget it, I would literally turn back to go and collected my IPod. Music really cheers me up and it gets me in a bubbly mood. Without music I think life would be so boring. Music makes everybody feel happy and when I see a happy face then that also make me happy.
5. What do you hate in songs and music videos?
I really hate grime. To be honest that genre should not have been existed in the first place. I don’t see how people can listen to grime and think it sounds good. There is no actual kind of rhythm to it. Well there is but really anybody in this world could do it. It is like speaking through a beat but very fast. That is not music in my opinion but hey everybody has their own opinions.
