Forms and Conventions
Genre conventions:
A music video is a great way of promoting the artist and there music, but it is also a form of entertainment for the public. As a group we decided to look at music videos from YouTube to get ideas and inspiration for our own music video. We looked at a range of different types of music videos in class.
Genre style:
There are different types of music video. Not all music channels have a particular style. If you watch these music channels over a period of time you will be able to identify with the characters in the different genre. Music video’s have mise-en-scene, teams, performance, camera and editing styles.
Camera Work:
The camera normally follows the performer which makes the audience feel that they are watching a live performance or make them feel like they are there with the performer. There are a lot of close ups and the lighting is used to focus on the stars face. Record labels will demand the need for lots of close ups of the artist.
Sound Track:
Normally in music videos the lyrics are on the sound track, in the opening and closing sequence. The back ground music is on the sound track. And this can be diagetic sound and non diagetic sound. The lyrics and visuals have to be in perfect sink with each other for the music video to work. The lyrics and visuals illustrate what’s going on in the video.
Editting:

Normally the editing is fast cut as they have to fit everything in a small amount of time. Some videos have a slower pace and the transitions between two scenes are smooth. Some of the music video used special effects like CGI which they use in blockbuster movies
