Stage Name-Professor Green

This artist’s real name is Stephen Paul Manderson he was born in Hackney London; on the 27th November 1983.He is an English rapper and has worked with artist such as Lilly Allen in her 2009 concert tour. He was signed to The Beat (2006-2008) run by Mike Skinner and Ted Mayhem but this record label soon went under and he then joined up with Virgin Records (2009-to date). The person who had the most influence in his life was his grandmother Pat, as she raised him from the age of one. His maternal mother had him at 16years old and his father was in and out of his life but committed suicide when Professor Green was around 18years old. He had to identify his father’s body in the morgue .This must of been a very traumatic experience for him at such a young age. He became a rapper by accident; he attended a friend’s party where people were free-styling. He was put on the spot and was called over to rap and that’s how his career began.
12The particular song that I have researched is Professor Green Jungle dub step
The Original Lyrics of Professor Green Jungle song:

PROFESSOR GREEN LYRICS:

"JUNGLE"
(feat Maverack Sabre)
I see no point in living life that right, so I just take what I can find.
I see no point in living life that right, when your out here in this jungle.
It's wild round 'ere, you don't wanna spend a night round 'ere.
When your out here in this jungle, aint nothing nice round 'ere, troubles what you find round 'ere.
When your out here in this jungle, in this jungle.
Your always caught in this struggle, in this jungle .
But you keep asking for trouble, you love? You love when trouble comes your way, your way, your way.
[Verse 1:]
Welcome to Hackney, a place where I think somebody's been playing Jumanji.
A Manor where man are like animals, an' they'll yam on you like they yam on food.
Cats with claws that'll stab a yout', act bad an' catch a slap or two.
We don't applaud success, all we clap are tools.
London aint cool to cruise through where the hunters pray, Looking lunch today, and your chains looking like fresh fruit to a hungry ape.
They'll eat on you, then laugh about it like Hyenas do, so stick to breezing through, like cheeta's do or be a piece of food.

[Chorus:]
When your out here in this jungle.

[Verse 2:]
It's blitz admist the strife here, got kids with sticks and knifes here.
It's hype here, we know no different prick; it's just life here, life the way we know from young the way we're shown.
Stacked trapped in flats where our front doors don't face the road.
God CID spinning round in cars, shifting criminals at large, it's hard, not to think the bits are just a bing without the bars.
Jealousy's what the cheddar brings, for the cheddar it's anything goes, low enough to rob newly weds for their wedding rings
Everyday is warring, never give a warning, violence is the only way you settle things, everyday is hating, money that I'm making, jealous 'cause I'm moving on to better things, everyday is fighting, rolling in the night now. All you do is watch everyone else get far, you say that life is hard..

[Chorus:]
When your out here in this jungle.

Conclusion:

The lyrics of this song are based upon what Professor Green viewed Hackney to be like. As this is where he grew up, he has a very good understanding of what is really happening there. He relates to hackney as being a jungle. Professor Green portrays hackney to be a very unsafe and violent area. There are a lot of gangs in hackney which he personifies to being like packs of animals ‘’ A Manor where man are like animals’’ He also compares hackney to be like the game jumanji ‘with cats with claws that will stab a yout’, by this he referring the cats to people that are eager for drugs and stab a yout means to stab a young person. The word food in the lyrics refers to drugs, and the people of Hackney will defend their territory like lions in a jungle. That’s why the word jungle is mentioned many times.

Professor Green is saying that it is very easy to tell if you are not from Hackney, by the way you dress, speak and carry yourself, he suggests that if you have no business in Hackney then it’s not a place to spend the night. Many disputes are settled not by talking, but by using their fists, guns or knives, in these areas actions speak louder than words. This is the way of life in Hackney for those born there. The police are always patrolling around Hackney trying to catch muggers, thieves and drug dealers.

It is likely that most of the criminals end up behind bars, even if you were once an honest person the atmosphere and the surroundings can have a negative effect on you, and you end up becoming part of that jungle.
