Q1 In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?
We have chosen to make a dub step music video .The artist, Professor Green has performed the song “Jungle” . The dubstep video that we have made, is a mixture of performance and narrative based format especially when you compare our music video with Planet Cybatron Dubstep by DMT productions, a concept based video. We challenge the conventions of a dubstep music video, as our video is both performance based with a clear non-linear narrative.

In our dub step video we have a lot of drum and bass which is one of the forms and conventions of dub step music videos. Normally dub step videos are very loud and have drum and bass which normal appeal to young adults ranging between the ages of 15-25.
Our dub step music video comprised of jungle lyrics which is why we felt that the urban scene i.e streets of london made a good location. What happens in urban locations is normally characterised in dub step video for example they show the life on the streets, were drugs and gangs congregate. E.g. the riots in London 2011

Q2 How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary text?
Our music video location was an urban setting; the characters in the video were young hoddies in London. We tried to incorporate different part of the music video with the digipak and magazine advert.
There are some digipaks covers that are bright and colourful as their theme of music is happy, normally light hearted and listened to by all ages.
However our digipak has a dark colour which makes it look more sinister. The theme of our music has a serious story line and our video is explicit and is listen to by certain ages as it not be suitable for young children.
The text on the front of my digipak was called Professor Green the style of text was graffiti to make it more street, jungle and dangerous. We choose the colour green because his name was Green, it stood out a lot more in the dark back ground.
We had a street sign of Soho square to show some parts of the location of the music video. We wrote in the jungle because it was part of the music theme, there is also pool table which also ties into the music video. The significance of the black ball on the digipak cover is that when the black ball is potted life for the main singer is over.
The background is a popular area in central London, Soho. There is a block of flats on the back cover and the writing flows in a slanted position, which appears to be like steps.
The magazine advert was designed by our group and the ideas were obtained by researching other magazine adverts regarding music videos. We had to include good reviews from the songs that artist has done. We included where to buy the video, which can be from such places as HMV and ITunes. This format is similar to other digipaks. The website of the artist is included in the magazine and images to give some information about the music video.
Q3 What have you learnt from your audience feedback?
Before we produce our dub step video we carried out a research questionnaire and from the feedback we got different ideas about music videos. 55% of our target audience were male and 45% were female.
91% of our target audience like simple music and 9% prefer complicated music. 91% of people preferred a story line with a music video and 9% did not. From this information I learnt that a story line would be good to have a story line in it.
Most of the people surveyed in our questionnaire thought that the music video fits the genre; this music would mostly be appealing to people between the ages of 11-16 and they would spend in the region of £5.00/£10.00 for the digipak. The audience liked the front cover of our digipak as goes into detail letting you know what the video is about.
10 people out of 15 liked our digipak but 5 people did not like it. 12 out of 15 liked our music video but 3 people did not. I learnt that most of the people like out music video and digipak. There was positive feedback from most of our audience.
Some people felt angry with the gang culture in London, as the person stabbed was trying to protect his friend. This a familiar pattern for many people living in London.
Q4 How did you use media technologies in the research, planning, construction and evaluation stages?
I used the internet search engine Google to search about the music genre of dub step like Professor Green. We used Google maps to find different locations around London for filming. We uploaded the video into YouTube so we could embed the video into our blog.
We had to email work to each other which was very handy because you can send any work anywhere also as long as they have access to the internet.
We used the internet to look at other digipak to give us ideas for our own digipak design; we used different images from Google images to add in our digipak. We used the same search engine to find images for our music video.
The digital camera we used is called cannon XM2 which had automatic focusing. This camera was very useful for taking videos around London and there was a tri pod with it, which helped us get all of the camera shot we needed.
The blog was useful as we could hand in work wherever we were and could improve on work when necessary. One of the editing affects we used was making the singer look like a ghost and miming the words to professor Green’s lyrics and fading him in/out.
In Photoshop I used it to create some of the images for my digipak .One of the advantages of Photoshop is that each layer can be created without deleting other work I incorporated Professor Greens face onto the inside sleeve of the digipak.
